What Would You Do?
This week:
- Dear TLW–
I have been in the training profession for over 10 years. I feel my expertise is classroom training, in particular supervisor and management development. As a natural outcome of the sessions I conduct, managers will often stop me during a break or after the session, and ask for my assistance in handling particular situations based on the content of the session. For example, we may have just completed a “conflict resolution” course, and a manager will ask how they might apply what we discussed to a situation in their world where they have need to mediate a conflict between two employees. I have enjoyed this follow up and informal coaching. Now I’m being asked to coach supervisors beyond the classroom experience. I don’t see myself as an “executive coach.” What do I do? Where do I start?
Next week:
- Dear TLW–
I have been asked by my organization to move into a formal training role. I’ve been a “subject matter expert” in our department. Fellow employees as well as new employees were expected to come to me for assistance, answers, and guidance. My manager thought I did such a good job with helping our team members grow in their knowledge and skill, that she requested a new role be given me. I decided that I needed to train myself about the “training and development” profession!! There is a lot to learn! Please explain the ADDIE model to me!
